The Cabinet of Curiosities
Long before museums existed, naturalists, explorers, artists, and scholars assembled cabinets of curiosities—collections of specimens, artifacts, and discoveries gathered from the world around them. A pressed fern collected from a woodland floor. A weathered feather. A moth's wing. A field journal filled with observations. These collections were not built for utility, but for wonder.
Mélange Paints is deeply influenced by this tradition of observation and collecting. Our colors are inspired by the quiet landscapes where nature unfolds in layers: moss-covered woodlands, windswept meadows, forgotten garden paths, tidal wetlands, weathered stone, forest canopies, and the shifting light found at dusk beneath the trees. We are drawn to places where nature feels untamed and enveloping; spaces that invite curiosity, reflection, and discovery.
Rather than chasing trends, we look to the enduring palette of the natural world. The muted green of lichen clinging to bark. The deep blue-black of a gathering storm. The softness of aged paper. The warmth of sun-bleached grasses. These are the colors that inform our collection.
Every shade in the Mélange palette has been chosen as a naturalist might select a specimen for a cabinet of curiosities—not because it is fashionable, but because it possesses character, depth, and a story worth preserving. Together, they form a collection that feels discovered rather than manufactured;
gathered rather than created.
