UNDERCOAT: STAIN BLOCKING & ADHESION PRIMER

from $19.99

Stain Blocking & Adhesion Primer

Our Stain Blocking & Adhesion Primer is a water-based primer and sealer designed to create a smooth, durable foundation before painting with Mélange. Formulated with advanced adhesion, sealing, and stain-blocking properties, this primer helps prepare difficult surfaces while blocking medium to heavy stains that may otherwise bleed through your finish coat.

Use this primer when working with tannin-rich woods, stained surfaces, water marks, odor-prone pieces, dramatic color changes, glossy finishes, oil-based paints, or substrates that need extra grip before painting.

Available in White or Gray, depending on your project needs.

Best used for:

Interior and exterior surfaces including wood, masonry, stucco, galvanized metal, vinyl, aluminum, concrete, glossy surfaces, previously painted surfaces, and oil-based paint.

Why we love it:

Stain Blocking & Adhesion Primer is the prep product we reach for when a project needs more than basic bonding. It helps seal stains, improve adhesion, resist peeling, and create a cleaner, more even base before applying your Mélange finish.

Choose White for lighter colors, high-hide coverage, or general stain blocking. Choose Gray when working with saturated colors, dark colors, dramatic color changes, or projects where a darker base will support your final finish.

For slick, glossy, or hard-to-bond surfaces where stain blocking is not the primary concern, you may also want to use our Clear Bonding Primer for added adhesion without dramatically changing the existing surface color.

Highlights:

  • Water-based stain-blocking primer and sealer

  • Excellent adhesion helps resist peeling

  • Blocks medium to heavy stains

  • Recommended for tannin-rich woods, water stains, heavy discoloration, and odor-prone surfaces

  • Available in White or Gray

  • Gray is recommended for saturated colors, dark colors, and dramatic color changes

  • High-hide white option

  • Suitable for glossy surfaces and oil-based paint

  • Helps prepare masonry, stucco, galvanized metal, vinyl, aluminum, wood, and concrete

  • Mildew-resistant finish

  • Low VOC

  • Dries to the touch in approximately 30 minutes

  • Recoat in approximately 1 hour

  • Apply with microfiber roller, synthetic brush, or airless sprayer

  • Water-based formula with soap-and-water cleanup

Directions for Use:

Properly prepare surfaces before application. Surface should be clean, dry, and free of dust, wax, grease, loose finish, or peeling paint. Stir thoroughly before use and occasionally during application.

Apply using a microfiber roller, synthetic brush, or airless sprayer. Primer dries to the touch in approximately 30 minutes and may be recoated after one hour. For heavy stains, odors, or tannin-rich woods, two coats are recommended.

Thinning may be necessary for spray applications. Clean tools promptly with soap and water. Do not use Dawn dish soap for cleanup.

For best results, allow primer to dry fully before painting with Mélange Morphose.
